A three alarm blaze tore through a large home in Franklin Lakes on December 7th, causing heavy damage to the structure.
At approximately 10:00 AM the fire department was dispatched to 962 Arapaho Trail for 911 reports of smoke from the house. Heavy fire from the front of the home was showing as units arrived. A second alarm was transmitted. Flames traveled up to the second floor and attic area. A search was made and three dogs were safely removed. Companies were withdrawn as conditions deteriorated and flames broke through the roof. Access was limited due to numerous large trees surrounding the home. Franklin Lakes Ladder 342, and Wycoff Tower 241 were able to set up in a driveway on the “D” side.
A third alarm was called for manpower as companies re-entered after the heavy fire was knocked down. Extensive overhaul followed with pockets of fire throughout. Mutual aid companies began to be released before noon. One resident was treated for smoke inhalation. Two felines were located deceased. Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Fire Marshal were called in to determine cause.
