WALTHAM, MA - On December 6th, a bizarre accident occurred when a gray pickup truck on Totten Pond Road made a u-turn and struck a Jeep. The driver then sped east on Totten Pond Road and struck two National Grid workers digging a trench, as well as a police officer on a detail.
Waltham’s 911 center received numerous calls for a multi-car crash and dispatched Engine 2, Rescue 1, and Medics 1 and 2. Engine 7 was special called.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a National Grid gas worker and a police officer on detail seriously injured. Both were given CPR, and both parties were transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington where they were pronounced dead. Two other workers were taken to Boston hospitals with unknown injuries.
The police officer was 58-years-old with 28 years of service. The National Grid worker was 36-years-old.
