Washington, DC - The two-alarm blaze battled by DC Fire and EMS on Saturday, November 16th, was one of four structural fires that took place that day.
While the second-alarm on Church Street NW was in progress, an engine and truck were dispatched at 11:04am to an automatic fire alarm at 1631 Kalorama Road NW. These companies found smoke coming from an apartment, and requested a Box Alarm. Gaining entry, firefighters found a fire in the kitchen that had been contained by a sprinkler activation, and quickly extinguished any remaining fire.
Later that afternoon at 3:21pm, a Box Alarm was sounded for a fire at 4338 Sheriff Road NE, a two-story mixed occupancy building with a laundromat on the ground floor. A Working Fire Dispatch was requested when units arrived with smoke showing. Firefighters found flames on the first floor extending upwards, also fed by a gas line in the wall. It took extensive opening up to access fire hidden in walls and ceilings before the fire was declared under control.
The last incident of the day took place in the Georgetown neighborhood, when at 9:12pm, another Box Alarm was struck for 1029 30th Street NW. That fire spread from an active fireplace on the first floor of a two-story row into the wall behind it. Quick work by firefighters prevented any further extension.
