Man Seriously Injured After Head-On Crash

On Saturday October 27, 2018 at 5:34pm Suffolk County 5th Precinct officers along with North Patchogue Fire Department and North Patchogue FD EMS responded to a serious injury crash. The accident happened in front of Burger King at 500 Waverly Avenue in Patchogue. A black Ford pick up truck and white SUV were involved in the crash. Both vehicles sustained heavy front end crush damage. Erik Pedersen was operating a 1994 Chevrolet pickup southbound on Waverly Avenue when he was struck by a 2005 Volvo, being driven by Nancy Kelly, making a left turn onto Gateway Boulevard. Suffolk Police requested a rush on paramedics. All 3 victims were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Pederson sustained serious injuries and the driver and passenger of the Volvo were treated for minor injuries. Waverly Avenue was closed between Gateway Blvd & Buckley Road for an accident investigation. Suffolk Police 5th Squad Detectives were requested to the scene.
