One person is dead following a crash on Elm Avenue in Delmar.
Crews were called to the area of 138 Elm Ave in Delmar for reports of a car that crashed into a tree around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24.
First responders arrived to find a car head-on into a tree with airbag deployment, with the operator of the vehicle still inside.
Firefighters assisted EMS personnel in placing the driver onto a backboard and lifting him out of the car and into the ambulance.
Bethlehem Police say the vehicle was traveling southbound on Elm Avenue when it reportedly left the roadway, crashing into the tree.
The driver was being transported aboard an ambulance from Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, with a Bethlehem Police Officer following, when the ambulance stopped on the Delmar Bypass at Murray Avenue and requested an additional paramedic to respond to them, according to radio traffic.
Bethlehem Police report the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, reportedly died from serious injury sustained in the crash.
Police say the driver was a 29-year-old male. At the time of this report, police said their hometown was unknown.
Delmar Fire, Slingerlands Fire, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, Albany County Paramedics and Bethlehem Police responded to the scene.
Elm Avenue was closed in both directions from Axbridge Lane to Murray Avenue for approximately 45 minutes.
Firefighters assisted in fluid cleanup in the roadway from the vehicle.
Bethlehem Police are still investigating the crash and an exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined as of this report.
