Attic Fire On River Street Displaces 9 People

On October 29, 2024, at 9:27PM, the city of Troy's Fire Department responded to 902 River Street for a reported structure fire. Engine four, engine one, engine two, the rescue squad, truck two, truck one, medic four, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. The caller reported smoke on the second floor, and they believed there was a fire in the attic. Engine four arrived on scene and notified command they had a two-story wood frame building with nothing showing from the exterior and are investigating.
Additional apparatus quickly began to arrive on scene along with the battalion chief and the chief noticed smoke showing from the attic area of the structure and transmitted the signal thirty for a working structure fire. Firefighters made their way to the second floor and began to search for the source of the smoke. Firefighters making their way up to the scene made their way to the first floor and the basement as the home was a balloon frame structure to ensure that they did not have a fire in the basement. Firefighters notified command that they had a significant smoke condition in the attic area and no other fire condition in the building. Firefighters pull the hand line to the second floor and firefighters made their way to the roof to pop the scuttle.
Firefighters begin to pull the ceiling and discovered they had a small fire in the attic area. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire before it could spread any further. Firefighters popped the scuttle on the roof and had a slight smoke condition coming from the scuttle with no heat. Firefighters began to overhaul the area around the fire and command called the incident under control. No injuries were reported and all of the occupants made it out of the house without injury. The fire was investigated by the Troy Fire Department no cause has been released at this time. The Red Cross was contacted for all of the individuals inside of the residence.
