Upper Macungie Twp.- On November 6th at around 1 p.m., a fast moving fire destroyed a two story dwelling with an attached garage located at 5645 East Lane in the township. A neighbor was driving past when he noticed something in the rear of the house that prompted him to investigate. As he approached the rear deck he saw that it was on fire, so he banged on the door to alert anyone inside of the house. The owner's dog started to bark immediately which woke up the sleeping homeowner. Together, with extinguishers and a garden hose they tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire. This rapidly spreading fire went to three alarms as it spread throughout the dwelling and was brought under control in several hours. There were no injuries and the house was a total loss.
As crews were battling the house fire, a secondary fire broke out in several sections of a dry field downwind from the fire building.Tankers, field units and a farm tractor with a cultivator were used to quell this blaze. On the following day around 8 a.m., a 30 x 30 section of the field rekindled and was extinguished.
