WADING RIVER, NY - On October 5th, the Wading River Fire Department welcomed scores of residents to its annual open house, where attendees enjoyed a mix of fire safety demonstrations, community activities, and educational displays. The event aimed to give locals a firsthand look at the department’s equipment, rescue techniques, and the work firefighters do to keep the community safe.

One of the day’s main attractions was a vehicle extrication demonstration, where firefighters showed how they use specialized tools to rescue individuals trapped in vehicles after serious accidents. In a thrilling addition, the department also conducted a live car fire demonstration under the command of Chief of Department Mark Donnelly, illustrating how firefighters approach and extinguish vehicle fires safely.

In a highlight for younger attendees, the Wading River Fire Department offered kids the chance to ride up the road on fire engines and a brush truck, making for an unforgettable experience. Families also had the opportunity to view a variety of firefighting apparatus up close, with firefighters on hand to explain how each piece is used in different types of emergencies.

The Wading River Fire Department’s open house was a resounding success, bringing together community members for a day filled with education, excitement, and insight into the work of their local firefighters.
