Bicyclist Killed in Mastic Collision

MASTIC, NY – A bicyclist was killed Saturday night, September 14th, after being struck by an SUV on Mastic Road near Dover Avenue, according to Suffolk County Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:40 P.M. when Gerrianne Griffin, 74, of Mastic Beach, was driving a 2019 Kia SUV southbound and struck an adult male bicyclist, who was also traveling southbound on Mastic Road.
Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance responded to the scene, and a helicopter was initially requested but later canceled as the bicyclist was in traumatic arrest and could not be flown. The injured man was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Griffin was not injured in the crash. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, and Mastic Road was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the scene.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 631-852-8752.
