SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. --- South Walton Fire District firefighters responded to a residential structure fire near the intersection of N. County Highway 393 and Tyler James Way in Santa Rosa Beach Monday evening (September 23).

The call was dispatched around 8:17 p.m. related to a fire at a two-story home. When the first units arrived at the reported address at 8:21 p.m., they found fire and smoke coming from the back porch and garage area below the home. The homeowners also informed the crews everyone had made it out of the house safely.

At 8:26 p.m., firefighters reported the fire was knocked down and had completed a primary search to confirm all occupants had exited the home. Overhaul operations then followed for approximately two hours.

SWFD crews treated and transported one person in stable condition for burn injuries to the hands related to the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Fortunately, the majority of the fire’s damage was contained to the garage and back porch area. Crews also did not find any damage or fire impacting the neighboring structures.

The SWFD Fire Marshal and State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the cause of the fire and determined it was accidental in nature and related to a portable generator.

SWFD would like to thank its mutual aid partners and the responding Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies for their assistance during the incident. The District also extends its support to the homeowners who were impacted by this emergency.
