At 8:44 pm on Thursday, 8/27/26 the Jewett City Fire Department with Griswold, Lisbon, Voluntown Engine 253, Plainfield Engine 195, Central Village Engine 197, Mohegan Tribal FAST, American Ambulance and the CT State Police were dispatched to 72 North Main Street for a house fire with possible entrapment. American Ambulance Car Apollo arrived at 8:47 with smoke showing from the attic and then reported everyone out of the residence.

ET 154 arrived at 8:50 and performed the primary search. Engine `156 laid in from a hydrant and established the water supply. Ladder 156 arrived and stretched a 2.5” crosslay to the second floor. ET 154 then got a water supply for Tower 154 which set up on the A/B Corner. Engine 155 and some other crews pulled ceiling on the second floor to access the fire. Tower 154 cut the roof and took the gable vent for ventilation. Car 56 then called for an 1.75” hose line to the second floor.

Car 356 had command while Car 54 was operations. American Ambulance transported one firefighter with a hand laceration to Backus Hospital. The Griswold Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
