Van Strikes Trees and Flips in Mastic Beach, Trapping 1 Inside

MASTIC BEACH, NY - On the evening of June 27th at about 11:20 P.M., the Suffolk County Emergency Dispatch Center received a call for a vehicle overturned with occupants possibly trapped on the William Floyd Parkway, between East Parkview Dr. and Manor Dr. The Suffolk County Police dispatched officers from the 7th PCT., and Mastic Beach Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance were also dispatched to the scene. Assistant Chiefs Roy Arcuri and Jason Sharp responded to the scene.
On arrival, the chiefs found the van on its side, up against a tree off of the roadway. The driver was trapped inside the van and firefighters went to work putting the Hurst tools in operation to get the driver freed while EMS members assisted and tried to keep the patient calm during the operation. Due to the nature of the pin and the position of the vehicle, it took a little time to pop the vehicle open to allow complete the extrication with assistance of SCPD ESU members.
Once the extraction was completed, the driver was transferred to the care of Mastic Beach Ambulance. The person was taken to a local hospital. It was not disclosed what injuries they may have had. The fire department and Police ESU consulted, and it was determined ESU would upright the van using their vehicle. Once the vehicle was up righted and the fire and EMS folks completed their duties, the scene was turned over to the Suffolk County Police.
