ROBBINSVILLE, NJ — August 12, 2026 — Firefighters faced difficult access conditions Wednesday when a fire broke out at the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham complex on North Main Street in Robbinsville.

When the Robbinsville Township Fire Department arrived to the reported structure fire, they discovered that getting to the fire site would be extremely difficult. To get to the affected location, crews had to stretch many handlines via stairwells, over several levels, and over great distances.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the fire had spread across multiple storeys and beyond the building's stone face. Additionally, the fire spread into other empty areas, making it more challenging to access and put out.

Firefighters from numerous departments worked for more than an hour to extinguish the fire. East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was among the mutual-aid companies confirmed to have responded.

The BAPS facility is located at 112 N. Main Street in Robbinsville and is part of the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham campus. BAPS identifies the site as a major Hindu religious and cultural complex.
