FAIRFAX, VT — July 24 — Firefighters responded to North Fairfax around 11:30 p.m.on Friday after a large fire was reported visible from Interstate 89.The Fairfax, VT Fire Department was the first to arrive with Car 1, Engine 1, and Tanker 1.Crews discovered a large, unattended brush fire burning in a wooded area.The Georgia Fire Department was called in for mutual aid to help firefighters access the fire from the interstate.

Firefighters worked together to put out the fire and make sure it was fully extinguished.

The fire was found to be unpermitted.

Fairfax officials reminded residents that permits are required for certain types of brush and outdoor burning.Leaving a message at the fire station does not serve as a permit.

This incident is another example of how unattended outdoor fires can quickly lead to a fire department response.
