Vacant Home Catches Fire

Fullerton - Fire damaged an unoccupied two story home at 655 5th St. just after 2 a.m. on Aug.8th. At the time of the dispatch, Whitehall Twp. fire units were told of a possible entrapment. The assignment was then upgraded to add a REngine and Ladder from Catasauqua, Greenawalds RIT and the Air Cascade 32 to the response. Searches proved negative as it was later learned that the family of seven was on vacation. Arriving units had a smoke condition with an assisting police officer coming down with smoke inhalation and being transported to the hospital. Later, a Catasauqua firefighter G. Wetherhold, fell through a hole in the 1st floor and was treated on scene by the Cetronia Ambulance crew. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes. The house was heavily damaged and a go fund me account was established for the victims. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
