BIDDEFORD, ME - Around 11:00 A.M. on the morning of Thursday, August 4th, the Biddeford Fire Department responded to a medical emergency on Basket Island, in the Hills Beach section of the City. Ambulance-10, Engine-26, Car-1 and Utility-4 with the Ranger responded to the scene.
Companies accessed the patient via a low tide sand bar off of Surf Avenue. First arriving companies walked to the island to access and evaluate the patient. The Ranger 6x6 responded to the island via the sand bar and was able to remove the patient to EMS-10.
The timing of the incident proved useful, because if the tide was high at the time of the incident, a boat would need to be deployed to access the patient on the island.
