Hackettstown, N.J. — July 17 — A smoke alarm at a two-story apartment building on Center Street prompted the Hackettstown Fire Department to react. Before the first engine arrived, smoke was confirmed by a previous chief, which prompted an immediate working fire assignment and second alarm. While mutual help organizations assisted with water supply, search, and ventilation, Engine 7864 met strong smoke from two levels, and crews launched an interior attack.

The fire was swiftly put out. Additionally, a cat was saved by firefighters and transported to a nearby animal hospital. There were no reported injuries. The American Red Cross provided assistance to one displaced resident while the cause of the incident was still being investigated.
