On June 14, 2026, at 1:46 PM, the city of Troy’s fire department was dispatched to 83 5th Avenue for a reported structure fire. The collar reported smoke coming from the cabinets and walls in the kitchen. Engine four, engine two, engine one, the rescue squad, truck one, truck two, medic four, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. Police units arrived on scene prior to the Fire Department and had a heavy smoke condition on the second and third floor and began to evacuate the residence. Engine four arrived on scene and made their way to the second floor and immediately transmitted the signal thirty for a working structure fire.

The next arriving engine company back laid a supply line to engine four and and connected to the hydrant. Firefighters deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line to the second and third floor and began to pull apart the wall to gain access to the fire. Firefighters inside notified command that they needed firefighters to toss ladders in the rear of the building to start pulling apart the wall on the outside of the structure as they believe the fire is traveling up the wall. As firefighters were pulling apart the wall and the ceiling area they were able to locate the fire that was traveling in the void space and quickly began to knock it down.

Firefighters on the third floor notified command that they still had a heavy smoke condition on the third floor of the building. Firefighters on the second floor continued to pull the ceiling apart and firefighters began to check the floor and walls on the third floor of the structure. Command requested code enforcement to the scene. Firefighters were able to bring the incident under control within 15 minutes. Firefighters requested fans to be brought into the building to ventilate the structure after they were able to confirm that all of the fire had been knocked down and the incident was completely under control.

Fire Investigator‘s arrived on scene and began to conduct their investigation into the fire. No injuries were reported. The incident was brought under control quickly due to the aggressive tactics of the Troy Fire Department. Firefighters went back into service about thirty minutes later.
