TENAFLY, NJ - A home was severely damaged when a tree fell into it, not only causing structural damage, but sparking a fire as well.

Firefighters were requested to respond to 225 Jefferson Ave. for a tree into the house causing a fire on July 6th. Chief Philpott arrived on scene to a large tree on the roof of the home with heavy fire venting though the roof and requested a working fire assignment. Engine 1 arrived on scene and dropped a supply line and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch line through the front door. Ladder 1 arrived shortly after and set up the ladder for aerial operations.

As crews worked on the interior, a collapse occurred in the rear of the home, forcing members to evacuate the building. Englewood's Truck arrived on scene along with Dumont Rescue 3, and multiple lines were stretched for defensive operations. Multiple hand lines and one ladder pipe went into operation to knock down the heavy fire venting from the roof. Additional mutual aid responded to the scene to assist in knocking down the fire.

At the 30-minute mark, the bulk of the fire was knocked down and crews remained on scene overhauling from the exterior. Mutual aid from Dumont, Englewood, and Cresskill assisted on scene while Demarest and Bergenfield covered the city. It is not confirmed, however the cause of the fire is said to be from the tree causing a gas leak at the second-floor laundry room, sparking the fire. The exact cause is still under investigation. A few minor injuries were reported.
