Wells, Maine — June 15 — A three-story house was destroyed and two other structures were damaged when the Wells Fire Department responded to a four-alarm structure fire on Atlantic Avenue. As mutual aid teams helped with suppression, water supply, and exposure protection, firefighters responded to severe fire conditions by deploying several hose lines. No civilian or firefighter casualties were reported, and the fire was contained in less than an hour.
After a propane tank had just been changed, investigators discovered that the fire had begun close to a gas barbecue and declared the occurrence to be unintentional. To finish the overhaul and make sure the fire was completely put out, crews stayed on the spot.
