First Alarm Fire Destroys Cottage St Residence

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 30th, the Moosup Fire Department’s 1st alarm was struck for a reported house fire at 10 Cottage St.

Units arrived to find the home heavily involved and began a transitional attack, using deck guns from Engine Tanker-194 and Tanker-194 positioned on the Alpha and Bravo roadways. Once the fire was darkened down, crews made an interior push quickly knocking down the remaining fire on the first and second floors. With the home located approximately 3000’ from the closest hydrant, the commanding officer opted to initiate a tanker shuttle over a long LDH lay with a relay pumper. Companies spent several hours chasing stubborn hotspots within the walls and roofline.

Three adults and three children were home at the time of the fire and escaped uninjured. The fire is under investigation by the Plainfield Fire Marshals Office.
