During a formal Transfer of Command Ceremony held on Friday, June 28, Chief John Whalen was sworn-in as the new Fire Chief for the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department (CSPFD), taking the place of former Fire Chief Michael McNally, who announced his plans for retirement earlier this year.

In his new position, Whalen will be responsible for overseeing the life and safety of Coral Springs and Parkland residents and visitors, plus the more than 200 sworn personnel and administrative staff within the department.

“I am very humbled and honored to lead this incredible organization and I look forward to continuing to work with the dedicated men and women who proudly serve the community,” Whalen said. “I am excited to be a part of the future of this department and to continue to provide exemplary service to the residents and visitors of Coral Springs and Parkland.”

Serving as Deputy Fire Chief since February 2020, Whalen started his career with the CSPFD in 1996 and has held numerous positions since.
