NEW MILFORD, NJ - One apartment in a four-unit garden apartment in New Milford was heavily damaged on June 24th, prompting a 3-alarm response, but causing no reported injuries.
At 9:05 A.M., units were dispatched to 943 River Road across from the NMPD for black smoke showing from a first-floor apartment. A working fire was confirmed by the first arriving chief. A second-alarm brought mutual aid units to the scene. A handline was brought through the front door and a search was made. No residents were at home at the time. Other apartments in the building were evacuated.
The first line had the bulk of the fire quickly knocked down. A third-alarm was sounded for manpower to check for extension to the upper floor and attic. The fire was declared under control by 10:30 A.M., and many of the mutual aid units began to be released. An initial cause is possibly electrical. Mutual aid at the scene was provided by River Edge, Oradell, Dumont, Haworth, Tenafly, Emerson, Paramus, Closter, and Teaneck.
