Illegal Debris Fire Spreads to Commercial Building

Fall River, MA - On Friday, June 21st, a neighbor burning brush with an excellerant on a 90 degree day caused the brush fire to spread to a nearby contractors building. At 11:14 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 87 Barre Street for a still alarm. Engines 2, 9, 12 along with Ladders 2, and 4 and Heavy Rescue 1 responded. Engine 9 arrived on scene moments later and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a two-story wood frame commercial structure. Car 2 arrived on scene and immediatlly called for a second alarm. The fire spread up the exterior wall and took control of the interior of the second floor. Special Services was called to the scene to provide rehab to the firefighters. Two firefighters were injured and the last unit cleared the scene at 1:18 pm.
