At 12:40 pm on Thursday 5/30/2024 the Jewett City and Griswold Fire Departments were dispatched to an electrical fire at 38 Mechanic Street. Car 56 arrived at 12:43 with light smoke from the Bravo side of the second floor. At 12:45, Car 56 reported fire in the walls and requested the first alarm which added Lisbon, Voluntown Engine 253, Plainfield Engine 195, Taftville Tower 25, Engine 22, Yantic FAST and an American Ambulance.
Engine 256 positioned in the rear and stretched a 1.75” crosslay up the exterior stairs on the bravo side. Engines 155 & 195 with Tower 154 opened up the second floor so crews could extinguish the fire. Jewett City Electric as well as the American Red Cross responded. The Griswold Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
