Southern Manatee Fire District was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the woods on the corner of Rt# 301 and Whitfield Ave. As units pulled out of the station a smoke column was present. Once on scene the fire appeared to be deep seated in the woods. After walking in and sizing up the incident a second engine was requested and a Mutual Aid Brush Truck from East Manatee Fire District. Command also requested the Heavy Rescue for Rehab and the Drome Team for eyes in the sky. The fire was brought under control in about an hour.
