WHITMAN, MA - Around 12:45 P.M. on the afternoon of Monday, May 22nd, the Whitman Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire at 863 Washington Street. Engine-243, Ladder-246 and Car-3 responded, along with Abington Tower-1 as the automatic mutual aid ladder company.
Companies had nothing showing on arrival, but received a report of a fire in the bathroom on floor-1. Companies found a smoke condition and a fire in a light fixture in a first floor bathroom. Companies were able to knock down the fire quickly with a water can. Crews opened up the wall and checked for extension, but found none.
One line was stretched as a precaution, but was not needed. Whitman Engine-242 responded to the scene with off-duty personnel, and a Brockton engine company covered headquarters. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious.
