Lakeland firefighters respond to a structure fire at Heatherwood Village

Lakeland, FL – At approximately 7:45 AM on May 13, Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) responded to a call for a structure fire at Heatherwood Village off Harden Blvd. Fire crews arrived on scene at Bloom Drive to a mobile home fully involved with heavy smoke. LFD firefighters worked aggressively to bring the fire under control.
The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the fire, and a neighbor was able to pull the victim from the home prior to LFD arrival. The victim confirmed she was the sole occupant, and there were no pets inside.
The homeowner sustained injuries and was airlifted as a trauma alert to Tampa General. The neighbor was transported to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. There is no update on either condition at the time of this release.
Responding to the scene included 9 LFD units, 3 Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) units, Air Care 5, and multiple LPD units. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and turned over to the Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigation with the State Fire Marshal's Office.
