Plane Makes Upside Down Landing At Airport

Shirley Ny – On Sunday May 3rd 2020 at about 3:59 PM the Mastic Fire Department was alerted for an Aircraft Emergency at the Brookhaven Calabro Airport on Dawn Dr. Chief Rudy Sunderman was the first to come on the air that he was responding, FRES advised chief Sunderman that the caller stated the plane was overturned on the far runway to the airport. Sunderman arrived and advised he had a confirmed overturned small plane and the pilot had self-extricated. Upon examining the scene he also found a fuel spill. Responding units were advised not to upright the plane on arrival but to go to work securing the plane and cleaning up the fluid up.
The Pilot was checked out by Mastic EMS but stated he was not injured and refused further medical attention. The FAA was notified as was the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal. Suffolk County Police 7th precinct, ESU and Brookhaven town public Safety were all on scene.
