CAPE MAY, NJ - On April 21st at around 3:00 P.M., Cape May firefighters, with assistance from the US Coast Guard engine, responded to a vehicle into a pole on the corner of Hughes and Franklin Streets. Members arrived to find a utility pole down on top of a car. The top of a a truck caught a low hanging wire, snapping the pole and causing it to come down on the unoccupied vehicle. Atlantic City Electric was summoned to cut the power and remove the wires so that the driver could exit the truck safely. The Cape May Fire Police was called to divert traffic away from the scene while the Coast Guard Engine stood by in case of fire. Once the driver was safely removed crews began to clear the wires from the road. The power was fully restored within a few hours.
