The Sarasota County Burn Mitigation Team held it;s Annual Training at Carlton Reserve, the team comprised of two full time paid employees of Sarasota county Fire Department which oversee the team, the remainder of the team is comprised of members of different departments of the county and some Volunteers. R Sarasota County Public Land with an emphasis on hazard reduction and ecological restoration including habitat enhancement for the Florida Scrub Jay. Responsible for over 50,000 acres including both rural and urban sites.
Responsible for responding to wildfires within Sarasota County and implementing wildfire management tactics that are safe, efficient and desirable for the ecosystem.
The team also delivers talks to various groups within the community in an attempt to bolster public relations relating to prescribed burning and fire management. Also emphasized the importance of FIREWISE and personal protection of property prior to a wildfire event. Analyzed the wildfire risk for homeowners in an effort to minimize property loss.
