Henrico County, Virginia. Just before 11 PM on Friday evening, April 15th; Henrico Fire units were dispatched to the 8300 block of Winchmere Ct, off Shrader Road for an apartment on fire. While enroute, fire units were advised of people trapped on the second floor.

Henrico Police arrived on scene first and began gathering the occupants that had already escaped. They also began notifying the other apartment occupants.

Henrico firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the front second story windows. A large amount of fire was in the rear of the apartment and extending over the roof. One adult female escaped by jumping from a second-floor window as firefighters arrived. She was the last occupant to escape from the apartment. Firefighters began treating 7 occupants as well as extinguishing the fire.

Three adults and four juveniles were transported to VCU Medical Center with smoke inhalations.

The fire apartment sustained extensive smoke and fire damage. An adjacent apartment suffered smoke damage as well. Seven people from the adjacent apartment will be displaced from their apartment.

Henrico Fire Marshals are on scene to determine the origin and cause.
