SHIRLEY, NY - The Mastic Beach Fire Department was recently activated for a report of a structure fire just before 10:30 P.M. The location of the call was on west Parkview Dr., off Pinetree Dr.; the William Floyd Parkway.
Initial reports indicated that there may have been a baby trapped in the home, as the occupants reported to fire rescue dispatchers, they could not locate the baby. Mastic Beach Assistant Chief Jason Sharp (5-13-32) and Chief of Department Luis Grego (5-13-30) arrived on scene and found active fire in a private dwelling. A working fire assignment was transmitted to bring in additional crews from Mastic Beach, as well as mutual aid from Mastic FD, and a standby crew from Ridge.
Firefighters were able to quickly stretch a line through the front door and make a fast knock down, as well as an initial search of the home. It was revealed that all occupants, including the child, had made it out of the home uninjured.
Firefighters removed several propane tanks from the residence, avoiding what could have become a more serious situation had one or more of them went off. EMS from Mastic Beach Ambulance company and surrounding departments were on scene to assist with any rehab or in case of injuries. The scene was eventually turned over to the fire marshal’s office.
