Rosenbauer Builds 54 Wildland Pumpers for CALFIRE and 15 for Office of Emergency Services
LYONS, SD – CALFIRE (formerly the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection or CDF) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) increase their initial 2006 order from 42, to 69 wildland pumpers.
In late 2006, Rosenbauer was awarded a contract to build 54 wildland urban interface pumpers for CALFIRE. Since that time, CALFIRE has added 12 additional units to the order, while OES has added 15.
Each wildland pumper will be built at the Lyons, South Dakota facility on an International 7400 4X4 chassis and is similar to the order placed by San Bernardino County last year. The pumpers are equipped to carry a 5-man crew and have installed a 500-gallon UPF poly tank, Darley JMP 500 two stage main pump, Darley 1½ AGE auxiliary pump, FoamPRO Class A foam system, and have a special spring-mounted body system that withstands CALFIRE’s stringent flexing requirements.
Each year, CALFIRE responds to an average of 5,600 wildfire fires, while protecting 31 million acres of land and property. Operating 1,095 fire engines, the state approved a phased replacement of approximately 150 trucks over the next three years as part of Governor Schwarzenegger’s Blue Ribbon Commission findings.
Doug Feldman, of Rosenbauer’s Sacramento office, worked closely with both CALFIRE and OES to secure the order.
“There were several deciding factors on choosing Rosenbauer. First, we met the apparatus flex standards, which were exceptionally rigorous. Additionally, because Rosenbauer is the leading worldwide manufacturer of fire trucks, we could produce these custom trucks in a relatively short period of time.”
Delivery of the first engine will occur in Spring 2007 and continue through early 2008. CALFIRE is kicking off “Wildfire Awareness Week 2007” on Monday, May 7th. The first Rosenbauer engine will travel the state after attending a kickoff ceremony at the State Capital in which Governor Schwarzenegger will preside.
