JERSEY CITY, NJ - In this world of what seems to become a more, “what can you do for me,” world, Jersey City Fire Captain Greg Fuehrer, of Ladder Co. 9, is a dedicated volunteer serving as Committee Charter representative for Scouts of America Troop 466.

On the evening of March 5th, he took his troops to visit another organization that voluntary gives to others. The field trip, which has become an annual event for Troop 466, assembled at the Gong Club's quarters on Summit Ave. The Gong Club is 73-years-old and made up of volunteers who operate a rehab canteen truck, which responds to major fires and other emergencies in Hudson County, and wherever else it is called to. The building is also filled with firematic memorabilia, photos, scanners, and of course, the canteen truck. 

Club treasurer Paul Schatzle gave the group a walk-around of the old firehouse, which included a tour of the truck and its purpose, the old fire alarm bell system, plus a presentation on the fire service and the group's mission on the flat screen TV. Captain Fuehrer also provided a drone video of a recent multiple-alarm fire, on the house computer.

During the kitchen area part of the presentation, the scouts were treated to pizza and other refreshments. 

At the end of the tour, Captain Fuehrer came equipped with water fire extinguishers and gave the group a class on how to operate them, which was also a big hit. Parents proudly took photos of their kids operating the fire extinguishers when they arrived to take them home.
