Firefighters Battle House Fire in Northeast Reading

READING, PA - At 3:50 P.M. on March 19th, a box assignment was sent to a reported house fire at 635 N 12th St. in the northeast part of the city after receiving multiple calls. Engine 9 and Ladder 3 arrived to find smoke showing from a two-and-a-half story, middle of the row dwelling and confirmed the address to be 633 N 12th St.
Car 7 declared a working fire as Medic 1 confirmed fire showing from the first floor rear. Firefighters stretched (two) one-and-three-quarter hand lines and were able to quickly get water on the fire. While searching companies found a victim on the second floor. A second medic unit was added as the victim was removed from the residence.
With water on the fire, companies began checking for extension and found minor extension to 635 N 12th St. Firefighters worked through hoarding conditions to search for any hot spots and secure utilities. The fire was placed under control with overhaul at 4:18 P.M. The Fire Marshal’s office was requested to the scene to investigate as companies began clearing just before 5:00 P.M. No one was transported from the scene.
