MONROEVILLE, PA - Just before 1:00 A.M. on March 14th, Monroeville Firefighters were dispatched to the Cambridge Square Apartments along Cambridge Square Drive for a reported fire inside an apartment.
Both polive and fire units quickly arrived and found a working fire with fire showing from the 'Alpha' side of the 36 unit apartment complex. Crews went to work with both an aggressive fire attack and evacuation of residents from the building. Due to the age and construction of the building, the fire quickly grew, spreading through the roof of the first section of the three section complex.
The fire quickly esculated to three alarms as crews struggled to contain the fire, as it ended up consuming the entire building. Crews battled for over four hours in bitter cold, snowy condtions before the fire was finally brought under control. All 65 residents were able to escape, but several were treated for either burns or smoke inhalation. The fire is under investigation.
