EAST MORICHES, NY - On Saturday, March 8th at approximately 1:00 P.M., multiple fire departments were activated for several brush fires along Sunrise Highway. A total of 90 departments combined from Suffolk and Nassau Counties combated the flames. The fire, which spread due to dry conditions and strong winds, consumed 600-acres of the Pine Barrens. A state of emergency was declared by Governor Kathy Hochol.
