Truck Rips in Half After Crashing Into Tree, Driver Seriously Injured in Bennington

BENNINGTON, VT - The Bennington Rural Fire Department and Bennington Rescue Squad responded to the area of Gore Road and Burgess Road on February 27th for a reported traffic accident with ejection.
Upon arrival, the fire chief had an individual who had been ejected from the vehicle and firefighters began to assist the individual with medical aid until the ambulance could arrive. The vehicle was ripped in half after it crashed into a tree.
Command shut down the road and requested law enforcement to the scene. Command utilized a thermal imaging camera to check the nearby field for anybody else that may have been ejected from the vehicle. The rescue squad quickly arrived on scene and loaded the patient into the ambulance while command requested a LifeNet helicopter to meet the ambulance in the town of Hoosick, New York. The indiviual was transported to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.
Vermont State Police are carefully working to determine the cause of the accident. The road remained closed for an extended period of time for accident reconstruction.
