Kitchen Fire in Single Family Dwelling

Henrico County, Virginia; February 13, 2020. Henrico Fire units responded to the 300 block of Waxwing Drive, near Henrico High School. Henrico 911 center received a call for the kitchen fire at 4:47 PM. A total of 8 Henrico Fire units were assigned to this incident. The first fire unit was on scene in just three minutes, at 4:50 PM.

Firefighters found fire and smoke in the kitchen area with fire extending into the attic. All occupants were safely outside.

Fire and smoke damage have displaced four adults and one child. The American Red Cross is providing temporary lodging and individual needs to the family.

The cause of the fire is a result of unattended cooking. Over the past seven days, Henrico Fire has seen three separate unattended cooking fires, each resulting in significant property damage.
