On January 10, 2025, around 11:10 AM, the city of Troy‘s Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at 240 1st Street. Engine six, engine two, engine three, truck one, truck two, the rescue squad, medic four, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. The battalion chief notified the dispatcher that he was arriving on scene with nothing showing from the exterior. As the chief approached the building, he had smoke showing from the eaves on the delta side of the building. The chief transmitted the signal thirty for a working structure fire.
Engine six arrived on scene and deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line to the second floor. Truck two arrived on scene and took the front of the building and deployed a ladder to the roof and firefighters made their way to the roof. Firefighters on the second floor began to pull apart the wall where they discovered they had fire and quickly began to knock it down. Command was able to confirm everybody was evacuated from the structure. Firefighters on scene had significant winds that day and within a few minutes firefighters had the entire incident under control.
Firefighters on the roof reported to command that they had light smoke pushing from the scuttle but no heat. Firefighters checked the area of the cockloft for any extension but had none. Firefighters conducted overhaul on scene for a short period of time. The fire Investigator arrived on scene and began to conduct their investigation into what caused the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire appeared to be from an electrical outlet in the wall. Firefighters remained on scene for a short period of time before going back into service.
