Northampton- Fire destroyed the retired First Ward firehouse located at 2494 Main St. on February 2 at around 01:35 hrs. This station was one of three that protected the borough until the current centralized station was built. When the old firehouse was eventually sold, it was then converted into a private dwelling. The fire was dispatched as a working dwelling fire with heavy fire on the second floor and roof area. The fire went for two alarms and its not known where the occupants were. Master streams from three aerials plus several ground lines helped to quell the blaze. A firefighter was struck by debris, transported to the hospital, checked out and was able to return to duty. The last units of the N.F.D. left the scene around 07:00 hrs, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
