Crews were called for a reported rollover accident in New Scotland earlier in December, 2024.
A rollover crash was reported in the area of 286 New Scotland South Road around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12.
Onesquethaw Fire, New Salem Fire, Onesquethaw EMS, Albany County Paramedics and Albany County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call.
Crews arrived to find a pickup truck on its side next to a damaged utility pole.
Chief Mike Salisbury of the Onesquethaw Fire Department described the cause of the crash as the result of a mechanical failure.
“I believe when the driver hit the railroad tracks, the front passenger side control arm let go,” Salisbury said.
“When the vehicle was on its side and we were looking at it you could see where there was a fresh crack and an old crack on the same control arm,” he said. “So that is probably what contributed to that one.”
The driver was not trapped and was able to exit the vehicle on his own.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and denied any injuries on scene.
The pole that was struck was severed and held in place by guide wires, according to Salisbury.
The road remained open during most of the incident with alternating traffic.
