January 28-2025. Pittsfield, NH. A large apartment building on Smith Street in Pittsfield was destroyed in two fires within 24 hours. The first fire was dispatched at 1914 hours as callers were reporting a house on fire at 18 Smith Street. The Pittsfield Fire Chief arrived a short time later and reported heavy smoke showing with a fire on the first floor. He immediately requested a Second Alarm. Pittsfield crews knocked the fire down on the first floor and searches began to make sure all residents had escaped. Mutual Aid departments came in to assist with battling the fire including Concord's Tower 2 who's crew opened up the metal roof and Engine 7 & Ambulance 7 worked inside the building. The building was all chopped up and had many void spaces. Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the fire but a rekindle around 0700 hrs the next morning found the building on fire again with heavy fire through the roof. Mutual aid crews were brought including Concord Tower 2 and the Barnstead Tower 1 operated for hours on the stubborn blaze. Heavy equipment was eventually brought in that morning and tore down the entire building.
