(OCALA, FL.) Jan. 27, 2025 – Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 3600 block of SE 12th Place on Sunday, January 26, at approximately 10:39 p.m. Upon arrival, crews discovered a single-story residential home with visible smoke and fire from the rear of the residence.
The fire originated on the back porch and spread into the soffit, extending into the attic space. Firefighters quickly applied water to the patio area, effectively extinguishing the fire. However, the fire’s extension into the attic required further action, prompting crews to pull down the ceiling in the main living area to gain access to the affected space. Once the area was exposed, the flames were located and extinguished.
Multiple units from Ocala Fire Rescue responded to the scene, including Engine 2, Rescue 2, Engine 5, Ladder 3, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 22, and a Safety Officer. Engine 2 knocked down the flames. Ladder 3 and Tower 1 worked together to pull a second line. Engine 5 supplied water and assisted in pulling the ceiling to check for any fire extension in the attic.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Fire Prevention Division, Ocala Police Department (OPD), Ocala Electric Utility (OEU), and Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) also responded to the scene.
Ocala Fire Rescue reminds residents to stay vigilant with fire safety practices and to have working smoke detectors in all areas of their home.
