Fullerton, CA - On Wednesday, January 22nd at approximately 3:20 p.m., a fire broke out at Laguna Road Elementary School on W. Laguna Rd. Fullerton/Brea Fire Department responded after faculty reported smoke billowing inside an unoccupied science lab. Faculty members shut the door to the lab and evacuated. Smoke was visible from the street when the first crews arrived on scene and was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm. About 40 firefighters from the Fullerton/Brea and Anaheim Fire Department responded, and the fire was extinguished at about 3:52 p.m. Members of the Brea Fire Department rescued the school's two pet turtles. The fire scorched the 30-square-foot lab it originated in and part of an adjacent library. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
