STATEN ISLAND, NY - On January 17th, Capt. Harper, without the protection of a hose line, was notified by a civilian that a baby was trapped in the smoky basement at 267 Ada Drive, a two-story private dwelling. Capt. Harper rushed into the basement, located the baby and handed the baby to the OV, Ryan Smith of Ladder 86, through an open window. The baby was transported to the hospital in critical condition, along with 4 other civilians. Fire marshals investigated the fire and determined it was from a space heater plugged into an extension cord.
