Kayaker Rescued After Overturning in Narrows Bay

MASTIC BEACH, NY - At about 8:45 A.M. on January 15th, Suffolk 9-1-1 got called for a water rescue in the Narrows Bay at the end of Jefferson Dr. in Mastic Beach. A kayaker was reported to be in the water after flipping over.
Suffolk emergency dispatchers quickly sent officers from the 7th Precinct, Marine Bureau and aviation sections. Fire officials also dispatched numerous local FD and EMS resources, including Mastic Beach, Mastic, Center Moriches and Eastport Fire Departments, Mastic and Mastic Beach ambulances.
A police rescue swimmer was dropped from the helicopter to make contact with the kayaker. Once boats arrived on scene he was loaded onto the boat and taken to the dock where he was loaded in the police helicopter for transport to Stonybrook Hospital for treatment of hypothermia and any other injuries.
