Flames from a furnace in the basement of a Bogota home extended to nearby items and then rolled across the ceiling before firefighters doused the fire.

The alarm came in shortly before 8:00 AM at 220 Oakwood Ave. On arrival heavy smoke was venting from the 2 ½ story frame dwelling. All residents were confirmed out as three lines were stretched into a side door and the roof was laddered. A second alarm was sounded. The fire was quickly knocked down, but smoke continued on all floors. The roof was opened and the home vented as extensive overhaul was needed between the basement and first floor.

The visible smoke soon dissipated and command placed the fire under control  No serious injuries were reported. Units from Hackensack, Ridgefield Park, Teaneck, and Englewood assisted at the scene.
