Yaphank N.Y.-On the evening of Tuesday, September 17th, the Suffolk Fire Academy buzzed with activity as various fire departments gathered for crucial training exercises. The focus of the evening was on honing essential firefighting skills through a series of drills designed to simulate real-life scenarios.

The Hampton Bays Fire Department led a Class A residential fire drill, allowing firefighters to engage with live fire in a residential structure. This hands-on training emphasized vital skills, including victim searches and fire suppression techniques, preparing them for emergencies in their community.

Simultaneously, the Setauket and newly established Stony Brook University fire departments collaborated on operations specific to high-rise fires. Given the presence of taller buildings at the university, the joint training session focused on search operations and the use of handlines in a high-rise training facility, ensuring both departments are well-prepared for potential incidents in their districts.

The Farmingville Fire Department also participated, conducting drills on commercial fire searches and suppression tactics using the Taxpayer building. This practical training was complemented by various classroom instruction sessions held throughout the evening, providing a well-rounded educational experience for all participants.

These drills underscore the commitment of the Suffolk County Fire Academy to continuous training and preparedness for Suffolk's bravest, ensuring they are ready to protect and serve their communities effectively.
